TFC/AAA Mini-Camp

Professor Dawkins with the TFC/AAA Camp Quest Texas Campers

At the Houston convention, we sponsored a mini-camp in collaboration with the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, which wanted to introduce our campers (and their families) to Professor Dawkins' new book, The Magic of Reality. 

During the day on Saturday, our campers dove right into our planned arts & crafts activities, a surprise balloon animal demonstration, and of course Socrates Cafe. Following lunch with their parents, campers returned to the CQTX rooms for a science demonstration in which they each learned how to isolate DNA from ordinary fruit using common household items. Finally, counselors and campers split into two teams, searching for unique convention items for a hotel-wide scavenger hunt, which included autographs from the many notable speakers, including Professor Dawkins himself!

On Sunday, campers were invited by Professor Dawkins to sit front-and-center for a demonstration of his iPad application for The Magic of Reality, and all of the campers got a chance to ask him questions, and even try to stump him on some evolutionary questions!
